A soldier introduces himself to the Peterson family, claiming to be a friend of their son who died in action. After the young man is welcomed into their home, a series of accidental deaths seem to be connected to his presence. – IMDb
All I needed to know was that THE GUEST was from the same writing/directing team of Simon Barrett and Adam Wingard that made last year’s YOU’RE NEXT to get my curiosity seriously piqued. While I thought YOU’RE NEXT had it’s flaws, I did see the potential in Barrtt and Wingard as well as being impressed by what did work in that film. With THE GUEST they are going in a different direction but still staying in the realm of violent action. I am also really curious just the character od David’s big secret is because it can’t be that he is just a soldier come to fulfill a fallen comrade’s request to protect his family. That is especially less likely to be the case after reading an interview with Barrett and Wingard where they mention their influences for this film ranged from THE STEPFATHER to TERMINATOR.
And I am liking the way that DOWNTON ABBEY’s Dan Stevens is sounding like an aw shucks version of Mr. Smith from THE MATRIX.
