My 5 Favorite Things About The Star Wars Holiday Special

4. Harvey Korman Doing Rejected Carol Burnett Show Sketches

Harvey Korman is one of my favorite people ever. Anyone who is a fan of the classic Mel Brooks comedy BLAZING SADDLES knows just how funny Korman can be as he played the role of weaselly villain Hedley Lamarr to perfection. So once one got past the idea of shoehorning him into a Star Wars special to perform skits that would have been summarily rejected by the CAROL BURNETT SHOW writing team, you start out hoping for funny but quickly the hope dims and you realize that this is a guy in an awkward position working his ass off to try and sell some of the unfunniest bits in the history of TV. And to me that beautiful trainwreck of cringeworthiness is like an elixir. My favorite of his bad skits is when Korman plays an intergalactic cooking show host. You can see by 5 minutes in that Korman really doesn’t give one solid damn and is thinking about all the awful things he is going to say to his agent once the torture is over.
