It’s been two years since Leo Barnes (Frank Grillo) stopped himself from a regrettable act of revenge on Purge Night. Now serving as head of security for Senator Charlie Roan (Elizabeth Mitchell), his mission is to protect her in a run for president and survive the annual ritual that targets the poor and innocent. But when a betrayal forces them onto the streets of D.C. on the one night when no help is available, they must stay alive until dawn…or both be sacrificed for their sins against the state. – Source
Finally there is something to do with a presidential election in 2016 that doesn’t make me want to scoop my eyes out with a melonballer. Kudos also need to go out to the marketing folks at Universal for being astute enough to use a take on one of the campaign slogans of Republican presidential candidate and sentient decaying Jack O’Lantern, Donald Trump as a tag line.
As for the trailer itself, well I am stoked to see that Frank Grillo is reprising his role from THE PURGE: ANARCHY and he is teaming with LOST alumnus Elizabeth Mitchell and Bubba Gump himself, Mykelti Williamson to try to make it through the annual Purge Night in one piece. For about a minute and some change we were given a really awesome trailer that was just enough to whet fans of this franchise’s appetites and give potential viewers a glimpse at the complex America of this film’s universe. But then they did what is all the rage nowadays with movie trailers and continued to run on for another minute which basically gave away the entire movie. Regardless of the over-sharing from this trailer I will still be there on Day One because this is a franchise that seems hellbent on getting better with each new film that gets released.
