What The What? Game of Thrones Recasts Daario Naharis!

got-naharis-skrein
For some reason the folks over at HBO’s GAME OF THRONES has seen fit to recast the role of roguish mercenary Daario Naharis. Out is Ed Skrein and in his place for Season 4 is going to be Michiel Huisman (TREME and NASHVILLE). The big mystery is just why Skrein was dropped.

We Have A New Doctor Who

Peter Capaldi (who is a bit of a vet of the Who universe having appeared in the DOCTOR WHO episode, The Fires of Pompeii as well as having a role in TORCHWOOD: CHILDREN OF EARTH) has been picked for the role and I couldn’t be happier. For one it gives us an older Doctor which I am all for because I was beginning to think that we would be stuck with Tiger Beat cover boys as The Doctor for the foreseeable future. So the BBC and the show’s producers basically have rained all of the fangirl and shipper factions of the Who fanbase with this pick.

All Hail Melinda May

Melinda-May
ABC has finally released a character profile for the one character (besides Agent Coulson) from the upcoming MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series that I already have a liking for due to her being portrayed by the always enjoyable Ming-Na Wen. And as I suspected Ms May kicks a whole bunch of ass.

This Sharknado Stuff Has Gotten Out Of Hand

sharknado
Now I admit to getting sucked into the hype over SHARKNADO when it was first announced just based off the complete absurdity of the idea and I watched the movie when it premiered on Syfy but the movie was incredibly bad even by the Syfy channel original monster movie standards. Plus no one actually watched the movie despite SHARKNADO mania running wild all over Twitter.
So while it was bad enough that Syfy has aired the movie every week since it premiered but now they plan on having a limited run in actual movie theaters.

Regal Cinemas will host midnight shows of Sharknado on August 2 at roughly 200 theaters across the country, including New York City’s Regal Union Square Stadium 14 and L.A.’s Regal L.A. Live Stadium 14.

Trailer of the Day: The Walking Dead Season 4

twds4
As part of this weekend’s San Diego Comic-Con festivities, AMC has premiered a (nearly 5 minute!) THE WALKING DEAD trailer for Season 4 which is set to air on October 13 and it looks great.
The prison finally looks livable, Michonne has a horse, there is a traitor inside the prison group, we get a version of the awesome Tyreese “hammer time” scene from the comics and like cockroaches, talk radio has survived the end of the world! Check it out after the cut.

Carl From The Walking Dead Is Stone Cold

This new cover image from an upcoming issue of Entertainment Weekly shows a Carl Grimes that is so far removed from the annoying little snot who never did what he was told in Season One. Carl is now looking like a bonafide sociopath who is eager to pop a cap in the ass of any zombie (or human) who has the misfortune of shambling into his view and young Chandler Riggs has really mastered that dead-eyed stare. He’s also my favorite character on the whole show now.   Continue reading Carl From The Walking Dead Is Stone Cold

My Five Favorite HBO Series

As I was coming up with my list of favorite HBO series I gave some thought to how there has always been a lot of discussion about the impact of THE SOPRANOS and just what an amazing show it is with some people declaring it the best TV show ever. This got me to thinking about how I am not one of those people who hold THE SOPRANOS at such a lofty position. Sure I recognize it’s importance in shaping the landscape of dramatic television but I honestly think that, as a show, THE SOPRANOS really wasn’t that great. To me the show was incredibly average in terms of storytelling but overcame all of that with great casting and acting. I defy anyone to point to one major storyline in the entire run of the show past Season 1 or 2 that was really all that amazing. Instead The SOPRANOS was wonderful at individual scenes featuring great acting performances that are very memorable but not in story arcs that elicit the same fond memories.

Big Brother Bigotry Supercut

big-brother
This season of BIG BROTHER has been exceedingly racist/sexist/prejudiced as if there was a casting call for the most obnoxious and hateful attention whores in the country and the best and brightest all were thrown into one tacky house to have their every move recorded 24/7. Usually the show doesn’t make the more offensive stuff that is shown on the live feeds on the thrice weekly TV show but the outrage over the offensive statements from the house guests was so strong that CBS aired a clip of the racist statements of two house guests, Aaryn and GinaMarie, which was a ice first step especially since the show the viewers to vote on a season MVP and that person will win a cash prize so voters really do need to be informed of who these people are. However, there has been much more hateful crap spewed out by other house guests which did not get an airing on the CBS show but luckily a bigotry compilation video has been put together showing just how vile the majority of this season’s cast really are.
