The Six Best Horror Movie Final Girls
For the uninitiated who are not up on their horror movie terminology, the Final Girl is a “horror film (particularly slasher film) trope that specifically refers to the last woman or girl alive to confront the killer, ostensibly the one left to tell the story“. So now that the definition is clear here are the ladies who made the cut (so to speak) in my estimation:

Cover Me Monday: I Heard It Through the Grapevine
This week we’ll take a listen to a version of the oft-covered song “I Heard It Through the Grapevine”. This song was originally recorded by Smokey Robinson & The Miracles in 1966 for Motown. The song is a classic and has been reinterpreted through the years by everyone from Gladys Knight & The Pips to the Kaiser Chiefs. The version I am most fond of is by the British punk band The Slits. The Slits version took a standard R&B classic and roughed it up a bit so that it became a harder more rock-ish song. The Slits – I … Continue reading Cover Me Monday: I Heard It Through the Grapevine

Shuffling On My iPod: Azealia Banks
Azealia Banks is the personification of the term unsigned hype. Originally from Harlem, NY but not getting any love in her home country, Azealia skipped across the pond to the UK where she was quickly embraced by the hip-hop loving youth culture and discerning music critics there. She came in 3rd place on the Sound of 2012 list (an annual list of promising new musical talent that counts acts like 50 Cent, Adele, Corrine Bailey Rae, and Jessie J as past winners) and was #1 on NME’s annual Cool List. Azealia is the flip side to Nicki Minaj…focusing on her … Continue reading Shuffling On My iPod: Azealia Banks

Bosom Buddies 2: Electric Boogaloo

BOSOM BUDDIES was a show that starred Tom Hanks and Peter Scolari as two best friends who were working low paying jobs who dressed up as women so that they can move into an affordable women only apartment building. WORK IT is a show that stars Ben Koldyke and Amaury Nolasco as two best friends who are out of work so they dress up as women to get jobs at a pharmaceutical company. The similarities abound between these two shows but the one glaring difference (aside from WORK IT not benefiting from the presence of the delectable Donna Dixon) is that BOSOM BUDDIES was capable of being funny now and again while WORK IT is laugh free.
