If you are a comic book reader of a certain age then you have fond memories of the ads for Hostess snacks that used to appear in the comics of the day. Super-heroes would face off against all manner of villains and defeat them by using the sugary goodness of a Twinkie, Ho Ho or fruit pie. All the heroes got in on the act but the most prolific were Batman and Spider-Man. So it was a sad day indeed when I read that Hostess Spidey was going to get deaded as part of this “Spider-Verse” currently crossover running through the Spider-Man books.

Evil Ed Thompson (played by actor Stephen Geoffreys) was the rat-faced bestie of vampire battling teen Charlie Brewster in the original FRIGHT NIGHT movie and I will be darned if he doesn’t look to be choking out Spider-Man in the latest promo pic from the AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2.
Still not sold on the design for this character and have to say I liked the pre-post-production photos that leaked a few months ago more than I am liking the finished product.
and is it just me or is there a bit of an “homage” to other big screen villains from the past? Click onward to see who I am talking about.
The 411: The Amazing Spider-Man is the reboot of the recent successful Spider-Man films (the last of which, Spider-Man 3, was released in 2007). Sony has to make a Spider-Man movie every couple of years in order to keep the rights to the character from reverting to Marvel/Disney so that is why we got a full on re-imagining of the web crawler’s tale instead of Spider-Man 4.
