With it being reported a while ago that Roberto Orci, one of the minds behind the JJ Abrams STAR TREK feature film reboot, had meetings with CBS to bring Trek back to television, it got me thinking about what type of show I’d like to see. Amidst all my thoughts about a Starfleet Academy show or a show about the shadowy Section 31 agents, I had the bright idea that maybe the new TV show should be a reboot of THE NEXT GENERATION. That way the movie and TV universes could remain separate but equal. And right after my idea of a TNG reboot I had the even brighter idea to do a wishful casting post where I cast the TNG roles myself. Any fan of Star Trek worth his or her gold-pressed latinum holds the same opinion on certain facets of the Trek franchise: Kirk is a big ol’ pimp; Wrath of Khan is the best of the movies; The Best of Both Worlds is the best of the TNG TV show; Janeway’s hair bun was a miracle of modern science; Wesley Crusher was an abomination and Bearded Riker was way better than Clean Shaven Riker. But we all also have less than popular opinions that put us at odds with the rest of the fandom. So sit back, set phasers to stun and engage your way past the jump to see my unpopular Star Trek opinions.

All 5 Star Trek TV show captains…William Shatner (Capt. Kirk, ST:TOS), Patrick Stewart (Capt. Picard, ST:TNG), Avery Brooks (Capt. Sisko, ST:DS9), Kate Mulgrew (Capt. Janeway, ST:VOY), and Scott Bakula (Capt. Archer, ST:ENT)…were gathered together on one stage for a Q&A at the Destination Star Trek convention, the first Star Trek convention in the UK in around a decade. That pic makes my inner Trekkie (and yes I am a Trekkie not a Trekker so screw anyone who has a problem with it) squeal with delight and feel really bummed that I couldn’t be there.
