Be Careful What You Wish For With The Walking Dead

THE-WALKING-DEAD-Season-3
OK, right off the bat I want to get out of the way how much I really like this show and the comic book it originated from. Sure it aggravates me at times but overall I am fan of the show and never miss an episode. That does not mean that I am slavishly devoted to it however. when I see things that irk me I tend to whine about them which is what this post is about. Specifically my issue is with the way two of my favorite characters from the comic book (that I was clamoring to see on the show) , Tyreese and Michonne, are being represented on the TV show.

The 5 Best Things To Happen To Pop Culture In 2012

Superhero Movies Continued to Rule At the Box-Office
It seems like every year that naysaying prognosticators predict that the public’s love for movies about superheroes will fall out of favor and every year those bootleg Nostradamus’s are proven wrong. In 2012, three of the top ten grossing movies of the year were about superheroes (The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises, and Amazing Spiderman) with The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises hitting the $1 billion mark. And the future looks just as bright with the upcoming third Iron Man movie and the Man of Steel poised to have big showings at the box office too.

There Can Be Only One…The Racial Quickening of The Walking Dead

Highlander-Movie

For centuries we have waited for the time of the Gathering, when the stroke of a sword and the fall of a head will release the power of the Quickening. In the end, there can be only one.

– Duncan MacLeod of The Clan MacLeod

Tyreese is finally coming to The Walking Dead! The biggest gripe I have had with The Walking Dead TV show was that they didn’t include the fan-favorite character of Tyreese on the show. My annoyance was compounded by the fact that the new character of T-Dog was created for no good reason at all instead of just having what was one of the best characters from the comic on the show. So when I heard the rumors that the Tyreese character was being cast I was ecstatic and then when I read that the character had been cast with Chad Coleman (a favorite of mine from his time on The Wire) filling the role I was giddy with excitement. So seeing the promo that introduces the character (after the jump) just makes me even more psyched for this Sunday’s fall finale than I already was but spoilers have me feeling a bit of trepidation at the same time.

Exactly Who Is the Target Audiece For A Walking Dead Zombie Bikini Calendar?

Aside from the fact that the make-up for this cheesy bit of nonsense (done as part of promotional efforts for the current season of The Walking Dead) is insanely low budget…the ladies look like a bunch of pretty co-eds on spring break who came in contact with a flesh eating bacteria of some kind and enjoyed wearing goofy contact lenses instead of the living dead.
But who thought this was a good idea to begin with? Maybe I am a stick in the mud but I don’t find the idea of bloody and bruised women in bathing suits to be all that sexy.
You can download the calendar HERE and click onward to see some pics plus a making of video that just ups the creep factor of this entire affair to around 1000.

The Walking Dead Season 3 Week 1: Blossoming Love During the Zombie Apocalypse

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-eRnL_Wtfw The one takeaway that I got from the season premiere of The Walking Dead was that love was definitely in the air. The slow build continues for Carol and Darryl as the twosome have gone from an icky mother/son vibe to something playful and flirty that doesn’t skeeve me out. Then there is the budding May/December romance between tweenager Carl and teenager Beth. Despite their difference in ages (he’s 13 and she’s 16 I think) the two of them were making googoo eyes at one another all episode even causing Herschel’s protective father radar to go off. Finally we … Continue reading The Walking Dead Season 3 Week 1: Blossoming Love During the Zombie Apocalypse

Trailer of the Day: The Walking Dead Season 3

Those cleaning out the prison scenes look intense. Michonne looks badass. My misgivings about the casting of the Governor have been eased somewhat. Herschel looks good all scruffy. Carl seems to have skipped right over his tween years and looks old enough to drive. Lori needs to die. T-Dogg had nothing to say in the entire 4 minute trailer. The Walking Dead: Beside the Dying Fire Review

We open this episode with a flashback to days of yore (Season One Episode One to be precise), where the helicopter that Rick saw upon entering Atlanta is now being seen from the vantage point of a bunch of walkers. The whirlybird is quite the attention grabber as every zombie within eye and ear shot decides to follow in the general direction the ‘captor was heading in. Herds being herds they pick up some stragglers along the way and show us that the undead are operating on ZPT (Zombie People Time) since it took them forever to finally arrive at Green Acres. And arrive they did, just in time to hear Carl bust a cap in Shane’s massively lobed head. The scene where the horde of zombies all keep pushing against the fence until it falls was cool and epitomized the awesome relentless nature of zombies.

The Walking Dead: Better Angels Review

Dale’s dead and some of our friends on Green Acres have decided to do what most of us do when dealing with the death of a loved one…namely go HAM on a stray pack of Walkers. Shane, Andrea, Darryl, and T-Dog (remember him?) open several can’s of whoop ass on these shambling undead fools and teach them that they better not never bring their punk asses on their turf again! Pitchforks are shoved through faces, mudholes are stomped, and brains are splattered all while Rick’s eulogy of the dearly departed Dale serves as our voice over of the festivities. Then we are back to Dale’s funeral where Rick reflects on Dale’s admonition that the group was broken and vows that they will all prove that dead know-it-all wrong by pulling together and getting their heads out of their collective asses. He also makes mention of Dale’s “look” which made me laugh hysterically because Dale’s look is one of the things that I will miss most about the character. Cue theme music and opening credits!

The Walking Dead: Judge, Jury, Executioner Review

“Judge, Jury, Executioner” can be summed up as a split show featuring a day in the life of Dennis the Menace during the zombie apocalypse and a bare bones production of “12 Angry Men” put on by the Herschel Greene Improvisational Players.

The Walking Dead: 18 Miles Out Review

“18 Miles Out” can be described as a tale of two plots. One plot is action-packed and riveting while he other is dull and harkens back to the not so halcyon days of lounging around Herschel’s fair navel gazing with intermediate forays into the woods to search for Sophia…all the things about the first half of this season that made the viewer want to change the channel. Plot A focuses on Rick and Shane as they attempt to drop off Randall (the guy who got impaled on the fence last week) somewhere that he can have a chance to survive but not close enough that he can make his way back to the farm. Plot B focuses on Beth (who is no longer catatonic but still has the personality of doorknob) and the other women of the group except for Carol and Mrs Otis.
