The McCarthys (CBS)

Based on writer Brian Gallivan’s real life, this family comedy is about a loud, sports-crazed Boston clan. At the center is the youngest son, Ronny, who is gay and somewhat sports-challenged. Hoping to gain some independence from his overly involved family, Ronny decides to take a job in Rhode Island. But plans change when his father stuns everyone and asks Ronny, instead of his more qualified siblings, to be his assistant high school basketball coach.

There goes that damned laugh track again! Aargh!!!
I don’t know who should be more offended by this show: Bostonites who are made out to be knuckle-dragging neanderthals; homosexuals who are depicted as neurotic and nelly; or Laurie Metcalf whose agent obviously has such minimal appreciation of her talents that he sent this script to her. I get that CBS has a formula with their 3 camera comedies but it just seems like this network’s sitcom picks are getting more horrendous every year. This show makes the execrable THE MILLERS from last season look like quality TV.
And why is it that only two of the four children have thick Hollywood-ified Boston accents? That is pretty darn unlikely to be the case for a Southie family.

God everything about these sound terrible. I think I’ll just stick with Vikings and Game of Thrones.

I am shocked that some of these even made it to the schedule especially that Mulaney show.
