My Favorite LGBTQ Characters From Sci-Fi, Fantasy & Adventure TV

As a big old nerd I wholeheartedly recognize and appreciate that the realm of genre (science fiction, fantasy, horror, action/adventure) TV has always been very progressive and ahead of the curve in pop culture when it comes to LGBTQ representation and over the years I have become a major fanboy of many of the LGBTQ characters that have appeared on those TV shows. So in honor of LGBTQ Pride Month I figured I’d share some of that love with this list of my favorite characters from some of my favorite TV shows.

Must Watch Summer TV Shows

Summer time is almost here and you know what that means: lots of sitting on the couch in front of the boob tube (with a tall glass of lemonade) catching all of the cool new and returning shows that the networks are going to be putting out during the humid months! The outside is full of cancer causing sunshine and malicious bugs out to give you lyme disease…stay inside where its safe under the warm glow of the television. Now click onward to see which shows I will be setting my DVR to record this summer.

Supergirl Sucks Now…And Here Is Why

In its first season on CBS, SUPERGIRL was a light and airy show that featured lots of “Girl Power!” that was a nice alternative to the more testosterone heavy fare on the other DC shows that were airing on Fox and The CW. With the move to The CW in its 2nd season I was pretty excited since that meant crossovers with ARROW, THE FLASH AND LEGENDS OF TOMORROW would be much easier to get done than they were when SUPERGIRL was on another network. And that was proven by just how enjoyable the “Invasion” crossover turned out to be. But aside from that blip of awesome, the 2nd season of SUPERGIRL has been a chore to get through and since I am the type of guy who likes to share my opinion…click onward to find out exactly why SUPERGIRL really does suck now.

My 13 Picks For The 13th Doctor on Doctor Who

Whenever an actor leaves the role of The Doctor on DOCTOR WHO the speculation about who will be the replacement actor reaches a serious fever pitch. Since Peter Capaldi made it known that he would be leaving the role the gossip has tagged everyone from Tilda Swinton to Chiwetal Ejiofor as the next Doctor. Just this past week alone there have been “breaking news” stories claiming that has been filled already. First up being reported as the new Doctor was Kris Marshall (finally a ginger!) known for his roles in the film LOVE ACTUALLY and the TV show DEATH IN PARADISE but that bit of “news” was quickly followed-up with the breaking report that CHEWING GUM creator and star Michaela Coel was going to be the 13th Doctor. So basically all reports are just rubbish gossip and the role is still waiting to be filled. With that in mind I present to you my own picks for who I think would make wonderful additions to the list of actors who have played the role of The Doctor.

Ranking The Buffy The Vampire Slayer Boyfriends

It’s the 20th anniversary of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER the TV show and with that in mind I got to thinking about listsicle after listicle I could write like I was a Buzzfeed staffer. And lo and behold, my first list is about the most controversial aspect of Buffy fandom: which of her leading men was the best guy for our Slayer.

The Worst Looking New Fall TV Shows

So I did a “The Best Looking Fall TV Shows” post the other day so it only makes sense that I do a post for which shows look pretty terrible from their trailer/preview clips. Now this doesn’t mean that these show will actually be bad because in previous years a couple of the shows that I thought looked pretty awful ended up securing spots on my weekly DVR list. That doesn’t change the fact that as afar as first impressions go these shows are not putting their best foot forward.

The Best Looking New Fall TV Shows

The fall TV season is almost upon us and as a result the networks are revealing more and more of their line-ups so I figured I would take a gander at some of the trailers being put out for public consumption and see which ones hook me based on their 2 to 5 minutes of video. In the long run I may end up hating all of these shows but for right now these are the best looking shows based on just trailers.

My Name Is Derek And I Am Still A Hate-Watcher

It has been 2 years since the last time I wrote about my hate-watching habit and try as I might I still can’t seem to get this monkey off my back. Sure most of the shows I was hate-watching have mercifully gone to the TV show graveyard in the sky yet other shows have popped up to fill that hole in my soul that only a good hate-watch can satisfy.

The Justice League Movie Needs More Women…ASAP!

While I am over the moon with excitement for the JUSTICE LEAGUE movie (especially after the clip shown at this year’s San Diego Comicon), I did notice while looking at the team pic that WB released that the League is basically a sausage party with Wonder Woman as the lone female presence on the team. And that is something that really needs to be rectified as quickly as possible which shouldn’t be hard since DC Comics has some really cool women heroes to choose from (as the image above, wonderfully drawn by Peter Nguyen certainly proves).

Let’s Take A Moment To Appreciate The Greatness Of Amanda Waller

The SUICIDE SQUAD movie is right around the corner (and I have already bought my tickets!) and even though I have already done a post giving a glimpse into just who the members of The Squad are, the release of an Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) centered trailer got me to thinking about just how great Davis is going to be in the movie. And that got me to thinking about just how great Amanda Waller is as a character.

6 Reasons Why The 2009 Friday The 13th Reboot Sucked

There is a lot not to like about the 2009 FRIDAY THE 13TH reboot, it was awfully written (by a cadre of writers no less) and mundanely directed and had the unmitigated gall to actually have Jason Voorhees running. Running I say!!! Jason doesn’t run; he walks at a brisk pace but that is about it. But those are not even the things that I am most bothered by. So with that in mind I present to the world on this Friday the 13 of May in the year of our Lord 2016 my top 6 reasons for why the FRIDAY THE 13TH Reboot sucked.

My 5 Favorite Things About The Star Wars Holiday Special

Ah, the STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL. It is something that stirs angry feelings of resentment and revulsion in diehard Star Wars fans while to others it is just a reminder of how the TV landscape in the 1970s was a truly kooky time where anyone and everything seemed to be ripe to be given a variety show. And while I certainly do admit that the special was a horror show with some truly terrible parts (like the fact that the Life Day ceremony looked like a Glamour Shots photo), I also have some pretty fond memories of certain things that I actually enjoyed (for any number of reasons from thinking it was unintentionally hilarious to my own innate love of kitsch and camp). And it is with the holiday spirit in mind and a desire to be nice and not naughty that I compiled this little list of the 5 things I love about the STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL.
