Stopping The Signal…Why I’m Glad Firefly Was Canceled When It Was

OK, let’s get one thing out of the way up front…I am a huge Firefly fan. I was eager for it to premiere when news of a Joss Whedon space western show was first released to the public; I watched every episode religiously during its short lifespan as a TV series; I ran out and bought the DVD on the day it was released; I was first in line to see the Serenity movie. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity-and even a bit of wizardry-Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well. – Rotten Tomatoes

Cover Me Monday: I Want You Back

Lake Street Dive is a band that is probably as unconventional musically as the name they have chosen (I always end up referring to them as Lake Shore Drive). The group is made up of a foursome of classically trained musicians who blend pop, jazz, folk, and soul into an eclectic mixture that incomprehensibly ends up working sublimely. One of those moments of auditory perfection is on the group’s cover of the Jackson Five classic “I Want You Back”. This version, recorded on a street corner in the Brighton area of Boston, is just amazing from the arrangement to the … Continue reading Cover Me Monday: I Want You Back
