Finally the geniuses in Hollywood are making the greatest Saturday morning cartoon that ever existed into a full-length feature film: Hanna-Barbera’s version of the Fantastic Four’s Thing! Or at least that is what it seems like with the news that BILLY ELLIOTT actor Jamie Bell has been cast as the ever-lovin’ blue-eyed Thing in Fox’s upcoming Fantastic Four movie.
Empire Magazine has put together a 25 cover extravaganza featuring all the characters that will be featured in the upcoming X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST movie. So we get our first glimpses of characters like Blink, Sunspot and Quicksilver in movie form as well as just what the Sentinels will look like in the past and the future. James Spader has been cast as the villainous robot Ultron in the Avengers sequel which will reunite Spader with Robert Downey Jr., his co-star from one of the greatest bad movies ever: TUFF TURF ( I know they starred in LESS THAN ZERO together but that movie sucks ass and not in a good way). This is an odd bit of casting though, much odder than Ben Affleck as Batman to be honest, and I am curious as to just how Whedon plans on depicting Ultron in this movie.

So Warner brothers has announced that actor/director/screenwriter/husband of Jennifer Garner/BFF of Matt Damon, Ben Affleck has been cast as the new Batman who will be facing off with Superman in the upcoming MAN OF STEEL sequel. And like any other announcement steeped in geekiness, it has caused the collective Internets to shit themselves in fits of over-exaggerated apoplexy. Twitter is on fire, the message boards are exploding, Facebook is melting, petitions are being started (with over 20, 000 signatures…nerds I am so ashamed of you!), all due to Mr. Affleck being named as the new Dark Knight.
Well I will give four reasons why Affleck’s casting is not the worst thing since GIGLI was foisted upon an unsuspecting populace.

Of all the Marvel Comics properties Disney could have put into production, The Guardians of the Galaxy had to have been the last one anybody thought would actually happen. As a fan of the GOTG I was admittedly a little geeked out and as dribs and drabs of pics and info get’s leaked my excitement is growing and growing.

With the news that a filming for the new (rebooted) FANTASTIC FOUR movie was going to be starting this summer it got me to hoping that new director Josh Trank (CHRONICLE) will be able to eliminate the bad memories of those tragic two movies that starred Jessica Alba and The Commish. And considering that piss poor casting was responsible for 75% of what was wrong with the previous FF movies (bad scripts, direction and visual effects made up the other 25%) getting the right actors for the roles is going to be a big deal. Which led to this wishful casting post.

There are very few things that comic book fans can agree on when discussing movie adaptations of their favorite books: THE DARK KNIGHT was dang near perfect, DAREDEVIL was a bit of a train wreck and Halle Berry as Storm in the X-MEN movies was just awful. So upon seeing the photo of Berry in full Storm costuming, that returning X-MEN director Bryan Singer tweeted just fills me with dread. With the changes that were made to the established cinematic continuity by the last X-MEN movie my hopes were up that the opportunity would be taken to rectify the dismal casting decision of hiring Berry to play Storm but alas it was not to be. That won’t stop me, however, from doing my own wishful casting of actresses that would be much better in the role than Halle Berry though.
